Description

Sandown Beach is one of the Isle of Wight's most popular and beautiful beaches, known for its long stretch of golden sand, gentle waves, and classic seaside charm. Located on the island’s southeast coast, the beach extends for miles along Sandown Bay, offering a perfect spot for relaxation, fun, and water activities.

Key Features of Sandown Beach:

  1. Golden Sands and Clear Waters - The beach’s soft, golden sand makes it ideal for sunbathing, beach games, and building sandcastles. The water is clear and shallow, creating safe conditions for swimming and paddling, which is especially great for families with young children. The beach’s gentle slope also makes it accessible for people of all ages.
  2. Family-Friendly Atmosphere - Sandown Beach is well-suited for families, with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. During the summer, there are lifeguards on duty, ensuring safety for those swimming or playing in the water. There are also plenty of amenities nearby, including restrooms, showers, and places to buy snacks and drinks, making it easy to spend an entire day by the sea.
  3. Traditional Beach Huts and Deckchairs - Along the promenade, you’ll find colorful beach huts that can be rented for the day, adding a touch of classic British seaside charm. Deckchairs and sun loungers are also available for hire, so you can sit back and enjoy the view in comfort.
  4. Sandown Pier - At the heart of the beach, Sandown Pier is a hub of activity, featuring amusement arcades, rides, mini-golf, and food stalls. It’s a great spot for families and children, offering a variety of traditional seaside entertainment. From the pier, visitors can also enjoy fantastic views of the bay and the coastline.
  5. Water Sports and Activities - Sandown Beach is a popular spot for water sports, including paddleboarding, kayaking, and windsurfing. Equipment can be rented on the beach, and there are lessons available for beginners. For those looking to explore the sea, boat tours and wildlife-watching excursions are also offered from the beach area.
  6. Coastal Walks and Scenic Views - The beach is part of the larger Sandown Bay, and the coastal path along the cliffs offers spectacular views of the coastline and the English Channel. You can take a scenic walk to nearby areas like Shanklin or Yaverland, enjoying the fresh sea air and natural beauty along the way.
  7. Food and Refreshments - The beach is lined with cafes, ice cream stands, and restaurants, where you can grab a bite to eat or a refreshing drink. From traditional fish and chips to artisan ice creams, there’s plenty to enjoy while you’re soaking up the sun. Many places have outdoor seating, so you can dine with a view of the ocean.

5 star stay at the island retreat. We enjoyed a weeks stay here and loved it. The caravan held more than the essential things, including a coffee machine, air fryer and TV. The oil heaters kept the caravan warm whilst we were out, so the caravan was always nice and cosy for us on return from days out. The caravan was clean and tidy and an easy check in and check out system. We also thought the welcome pack was a fab idea as we hadn’t yet done a food shop before we arrived so it was nice to have a hot brew after a long journey. There was so many things to do in the area in general but most importantly activities and walks were dog friendly so our gorgeous pup Ronnie enjoyed his holidays too. We could have definitely had another week here, we will be booking again.
