Appuldurcombe House
Appuldurcombe House is one of the island’s most impressive historic sites, once the grandest house on the Isle of Wight. Built in the 18th century for the Worsley family, it was renowned for its Baroque architecture and lavish interiors. Today, the house stands as a dramatic shell, after suffering bomb damage during World War II, but it remains an atmospheric and fascinating place to visit.

The grounds, landscaped by the famous designer Capability Brown, are still beautiful to explore, with sweeping lawns, woodland walks, and views across the countryside. Visitors can wander through the ruins of the house, which retains a sense of its former grandeur, and learn about its history through displays on site.

Appuldurcombe is also known for ghost stories and has been featured on television as one of the most haunted sites on the island, adding to its intrigue. It is a favourite stop for history lovers, photographers, and those who enjoy peaceful countryside walks.
