Godshill Model Village
Godshill Model Village
Godshill Model Village is a much-loved attraction set in the heart of the island’s prettiest village. Opened in the 1950s, it recreates scenes of rural island life on a miniature scale, with carefully crafted models of houses, cottages, churches, and railways. The highlight is the model of Godshill itself, complete with its iconic thatched cottages and church, allowing visitors to see the village both in full size and in miniature.
The gardens surrounding the models are beautifully landscaped, filled with colourful flowers, shrubs, and trees that frame the tiny buildings. Children enjoy spotting the little people and vehicles scattered throughout, while adults appreciate the craftsmanship and humour built into the displays.
The Model Village is set within a real 17th-century thatched house and grounds, adding to the charm of the visit. With its mix of nostalgia and family appeal, it remains one of the island’s most enduring attractions.
Opening times: Daily from spring to autumn, usually 10am to 5pm. Closed in winter.
Nearby attractions: Godshill’s thatched cottages and tearooms, All Saints Church, and Appuldurcombe House.
