Isle of Wight Steam Railway
The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is a heritage railway that brings the golden age of steam travel back to life. Based at Havenstreet, the line runs along a restored section of the old island railway, with beautifully preserved Victorian and Edwardian locomotives and carriages. The railway first opened to the public in the 1970s after volunteers saved the line, and it has grown into one of the island’s top attractions.

Visitors can enjoy a scenic ride through the countryside, passing fields, woods, and small stations along the way. At Havenstreet Station, the main hub, there is a museum of railway artefacts, a locomotive workshop where engines are restored, and a children’s play area. The railway also hosts seasonal events, including steam galas, 1940s weekends, and Santa specials at Christmas.

Rail enthusiasts and families alike enjoy the experience, which combines history with the simple pleasure of travelling by steam. The site also features a café and gift shop for refreshments and souvenirs.
