Mottistone Gardens
Mottistone Gardens is a National Trust property set in the rolling countryside of West Wight. The gardens surround a 16th-century manor house, Mottistone Manor, and have been developed over the years into a beautiful mix of formal and wild planting. The manor itself is privately occupied, but the gardens are open to visitors.

The gardens feature herbaceous borders, colourful terraces, an orchard, and a walled garden, with each area offering something different throughout the seasons. A highlight is the Mediterranean-style planting, which thrives in the island’s mild climate. Families will find plenty of open spaces to explore, and there are hidden corners that appeal to children.

Mottistone is also known for the Mottistone Longstone, a Neolithic standing stone located nearby, linking the site to the island’s ancient history. The peaceful setting makes it a favourite spot for walkers and garden enthusiasts.

Opening times: Daily, March to October, 10:30am to 5pm. Closed in winter.
