Yarmouth Castle
Yarmouth Castle is a small but fascinating coastal fortress built by Henry VIII in 1547 to guard the Solent against French invasion. It was one of the last castles commissioned by the king and is the smallest on the island, but it played an important role in coastal defence.

Visitors can explore the castle’s rooms, gun platforms, and exhibitions, which tell the story of Tudor fortifications and Yarmouth’s maritime history. The rooftop offers excellent views across the harbour and the Solent, making it a great spot for photography. A picnic area within the castle grounds provides a pleasant place to relax and take in the scenery.

The castle is right next to Yarmouth Pier and the town’s bustling harbour, so it is easy to combine a visit with exploring the shops, cafés, and coastal walks nearby.

Opening times: Daily, April to October, 10am to 5pm. Closed in winter.
