Welcome to GeoQuest!

Discover hidden locations, uncover local stories and learn about the Isle of Wight as you explore our GeoQuest trails.

Whether you’re a local resident or visiting the island, GeoQuest combines walking, adventure and education into one exciting outdoor experience.

Before You Begin

  • Create a free GeoQuest player account.
  • Sign in to your account.
  • Enable Location Services (GPS) on your mobile device.
  • Make sure you have an internet connection.
  • Wear suitable footwear and clothing for the weather.

How to Play

1. Open the Map

Your current location will appear on the map once you allow location access.

As you move around, GeoQuest will search for nearby discovery areas.

2. Find a Discovery Area

Caches are not shown with their exact location.

When you get close enough, an approximate search area will appear on the map.

Use the clues provided to search the area.

3. Find the Cache

Look carefully for the GeoQuest marker or information point.

Each cache contains a unique Secret Code.

Do not remove or damage anything.

Leave everything exactly as you found it.

4. Unlock the Cache

When you’re within the required distance, the Unlock Cache option becomes available.

Enter the Secret Code exactly as you found it.

If your GPS location and code are correct, the cache will be unlocked automatically.

5. Learn Something New

Every cache contains educational information about its location.

You might discover:

  • Local history
  • Famous people
  • Wildlife
  • Architecture
  • Nature
  • Hidden stories
  • Fun facts

Take a moment to enjoy the information before continuing your adventure.

6. Earn Rewards

Each discovery earns:

  • Experience Points (XP)
  • Player Levels
  • Achievement Badges
  • Trail Progress

The more caches you discover, the higher you climb on the leaderboard.

7. Leave a Logbook Entry

After unlocking a cache you can:

  • Leave a comment
  • Rate your experience
  • Add an emoji reaction

Your entry becomes part of the cache’s digital history for other players to enjoy.

Tips

  • Stay on public paths whenever possible.
  • Some caches are easier than others—check the difficulty rating.
  • Explore every clue carefully.
  • Take your time and enjoy your surroundings.
  • Work together as a family or team.

Please Respect the Game

To keep GeoQuest enjoyable for everyone:

  • Never publish or share Secret Codes.
  • Do not reveal the exact cache location.
  • Leave caches exactly as you found them.
  • Respect wildlife, nature and private property.
  • Take litter home with you.
  • Report any damaged or missing caches using the contact page.

Safety

Your safety is more important than finding a cache.

Always:

  • Be aware of traffic and other hazards.
  • Watch your footing on uneven ground.
  • Keep children supervised.
  • Do not climb walls, fences or trees unless specifically instructed.
  • Never enter private property.
  • If conditions become unsafe, return another day.
