A November or December island break offers time for coastal birdwatching. St Helens Duver is one option for visitors interested in winter wildlife.
What to look for
The National Trust lists brent geese and wigeons between October and March, feeding around the eelgrass beds off St Helens Ledges and in the harbour. Sightings depend on conditions and wildlife activity.
Plan your visit
Bring binoculars and watch from a respectful distance. Check weather, tides and the National Trust’s current visitor guidance before setting off. Woodland paths behind the beach include steps and become muddy. At high tide, the top of the beach is sometimes covered.
Keep dogs under close control and on a short lead around livestock. Choose a route suited to your group.
